What’s New:  University of Alberta students enroll into CNEEC’s and Shandong University’s General Studies Program.

Starting in September 2021, a new class of thirty (30) students began their first semester of studies at CNEEC’s and Shandong University’s General Studies Program (“GSP”).

This is the newest collaboration project between CNEEC, the University of Alberta, and Shandong University.  Students from the People’s Republic of China complete the first two years of their University of Alberta undergraduate curriculum through the General Study Program offered by CNEEC and Shandong University.   The GSP Project provides students the equivalent credit courses and GPA as would be earned through studying at the University of Alberta. Students then complete their studies in Canada earning an undergraduate degree within their program of study.

Building Friendships

At the start of the semester, with the help of teachers and students from the GSP Project, thirty (30) newcomers from the University of Alberta quickly became familiar with the school environment and began their studies and campus life.

In addition to a busy lecture and study schedule, the GSP Project of Shandong University organized a variety of after-school activities for students, including mid-autumn festival tea parties, team building activities, and sports events such as badminton, table tennis, and basketball. The students were encouraged to participate, enhancing their friendships and meeting with teachers to share their experiences of university life and their hopes for the future.

Benefits of Partnership

Students of the GSP Project experience quality curriculum and pedagogical techniques developed by the University of Alberta, one of the top 10 universities in Canada and a top 100 universities in the world.

Working Together

CNEEC has worked closely with the University of Alberta since the start of the General Study Program of Shandong University and Southwest Jiaotong University, signing an Articulation Agreement in 2001.  In the past 20 years, CNEEC has transferred approximately eight hundred (800) students to the University of Alberta.

Though interrupted by the Covid 19 pandemic in February 2020, CNEEC and the University of Alberta have engaged in the exchange of representatives to deepen their mutual understanding and cooperation. The University of Alberta has sent professors to give lectures to students of this joint China-Canada project. Collectively, they very much agree with the training model of the GSP Project for students.
